Newfoundland storm

Salisbury Journal of 1 November 1756, under the sub-heading of Poole, records that:

Our last Accounts from Newfoundland are very melancholy, several ships and boats, some belonging to this Port, are lost in a violent storm of wind, and which worst of all many Men drowned.
