Transcription of an entry in the Salisbury Journal of 18th October 1756.
The ship sent into Poole by the "Fox", appears to be the Bristol Packet, "Goodwing", bound from Piscataqua to Biddeford, laden with Boards, Fish, Oil and Masts etc, taken by the French the 5th inst. in Lat. 46 14 Long 7.
Piscataqua may be on the N.E. coast of the American colonies (DW)

Transcription of extract from Salisbury Journal 14th August 1739 reads: "By a letter from Pool dated the 6th instant we have an account that the "Samuel and Hannah", Captain Vallis, who arrived there that day from London, met with a French Man of War off Beachy and another off Fairlight standing to the eastward. He supposed them to be ships of 50 guns."
