Civil Defence Corps, WWII, Branksome cleaning party volunteers, 11 Civil Defence volunteers, c. end 1944-mid 1945, immediately prior to disbandment. On left Sidney James Cake, second-in-command of cleansing party (HGV driver) Jn centre of line, Ronald Goldsmith, CD sergeant (formerly prison warder). The cleansing party wagons went to the Southampton area, as well as locally after enemy action. No. 1 post Branksome First Aid Ceansing Party. This photo was taken outside the council building at the top of Library Road, Branksome, the building is stiil there. The job of this party was the setting up and running of a gas cleansing station, ie. for the use of persons who had been subjected to poison gas, date 1940-42 or towards the end of the war when the ARP was stood down.

No. 1 post Branksome, first aid nursing and ambulance party taken in garden by Branksome Lib. 1940-44.
