Transcription of extract from Salisbury Journal for 10th February 1755. "Monday morning last died suddenly Mr Benjamin Skutt, Premier Alderman of this Town, a Gentleman of exceeding good solid sense, which he retained to the last, though not much short of four score; without compliment to his memory he was a loving husband, a tender father, a pious Christian, a sincere friend and a good man, as he lived generally beloved, so his death is generally lamented".
